Rivian’s micromobility spinoff, Also, is trying to establish itself as an independent business—but its first priority is getting products into production, according to The Verge.
Chris Yu, Also’s CEO and a Stanford-trained aeronautics PhD who previously served as chief technology officer at Specialized, rejected concerns that the startup represents too much of a stretch for Rivian. The Verge reports that Yu said Also is not in over its head as it works to ramp up production.
The company’s challenge is therefore as practical as it is ambitious: build and ship a product before attempting to reshape the micromobility market. The report frames Also’s early execution as a key test of whether the Rivian spinoff can operate successfully on its own.
